President Bola Tinubu has charged members of the Nigerian Armed Forces to remain disciplined, united, and loyal to Nigeria’s democratic ideals, describing them as the enduring symbol of the nation’s shared strength and guardians of constitutional rule.
The president gave the charge during activities marking the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day in Abuja, where he paid tribute to fallen heroes who laid down their lives in defence of the country’s unity and sovereignty. He urged serving personnel to continue to uphold professionalism and remain apolitical while carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.
Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the armed forces, pledging improved welfare packages, enhanced training, and better equipment to enable them effectively tackle Nigeria’s security challenges. He noted that national security and the wellbeing of military personnel are inseparable, stressing that the sacrifices of troops must be matched with tangible government support.
The president also emphasised unity within the ranks, noting that cohesion among officers and men remains critical to sustaining democracy and maintaining public trust in the military institution. According to him, loyalty to the constitution and civilian authority is fundamental to Nigeria’s democratic stability.
As part of efforts to boost civil–military relations, Tinubu approved initiatives aimed at encouraging public appreciation for military service, including platforms that allow citizens to honour and thank personnel for their sacrifices.
The event attracted top government officials, service chiefs, senior officers, and families of fallen soldiers, reinforcing the central role of the armed forces in safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy and national integrity.
