How Did Bola Graduate Before School Was Established? — ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council has challenged Vice President Kashim Shettima to explain an alleged discrepancy in President Bola Tinubu’s educational records, following his reported criticism of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s educational background.

In a press statement issued on October 26, 2026, and signed by Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, the opposition group questioned how Tinubu could have graduated from Government College Lagos in 1970 when, according to the statement, the school was established in 1974.

The council’s challenge followed remarks attributed to Shettima at the 32nd Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja, where he reportedly mocked Atiku over his attendance at the Kano School of Hygiene.

Describing Atiku’s educational background as nothing to be ashamed of, the ADC campaign council argued that millions of Nigerians had pursued education through available opportunities before building their careers.

The group accused Shettima of focusing on Atiku’s schooling rather than addressing the economic hardship confronting Nigerians, including rising food prices, transportation costs and widespread poverty.

The statement also raised questions about the name “Tinubu Bola Adekunle” reportedly appearing on the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate submitted by Tinubu to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). It noted that Atiku had challenged the alleged discrepancy in court.

The council further referenced legal proceedings in the United States concerning Tinubu’s Chicago State University records, alongside questions arising from a 1993 forfeiture in Chicago linked to a narcotics investigation.

On the economy, the ADC campaign council cited projections attributed to the World Bank concerning poverty in Nigeria and referred to estimates that 35 million people face acute food insecurity.

It argued that these economic pressures deserved greater attention from the Federal Government than political exchanges over educational qualifications.

The council also defended Atiku’s proposal for a targeted, capped and independently audited subsidy tied to petrol refined in Nigeria. It challenged the Federal Government to provide figures demonstrating why the proposal would be unworkable or present alternative measures to reduce fuel prices.

The statement criticised the Tinubu administration’s handling of the economy and maintained that Nigerians would have an opportunity to express their views through the ballot box in the 2027 general election.

The ADC campaign council concluded by urging Shettima to address the questions raised about Tinubu’s records rather than ridicule Atiku’s educational background.
