Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded fresh successes in ongoing offensive operations against terrorists in Zamfara State, neutralizing several fighters, recovering weapons and intercepting a courier transporting 180 explosive materials to terrorist elements.
The military operation, which is part of sustained efforts to degrade terrorist networks across the North-West, also led to the recovery of rifles, ammunition and motorcycles during encounters with the terrorists.
On August 14, 2026, troops of Sector 2, while conducting an offensive clearance operation in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State, made contact with terrorists around Garin Kaso.
The troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, during which two terrorists were confirmed neutralized.
Following the encounter, the troops recovered two rifles, two magazines, nine rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles from the terrorists.
As the operation continued, another group of terrorists attempted to ambush the troops from concealed positions.
However, the troops responded decisively, fought through the ambush and inflicted further casualties on the terrorists. The surviving terrorists were forced to flee the area.
The military said the operations form part of the ongoing offensive campaign to disrupt terrorist activities, deny armed groups freedom of movement and degrade their operational capabilities across the North-West.
The interception of the 180 explosive materials is particularly significant as it potentially prevented the materials from reaching terrorist elements and being used in attacks against security forces and civilians.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA has continued to intensify military operations against terrorist and bandit groups operating across the North-West, with troops conducting clearance operations, ambushes and intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling hostile networks.
The latest operations underscore the military's continued efforts to take the fight directly to terrorist elements and disrupt their logistics and supply chains in the region.
