Political analyst Jide Ojo has raised concerns over the credibility and process of the APC presidential primaries that produced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with over 10 million votes.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Ojo questioned the unusually high voter turnout and the speed at which results were announced across several states.
According to him, figures released from the Federal Capital Territory, where over 36,000 votes were reportedly recorded for Tinubu, raised questions about the transparency of the exercise. He argued that the reported turnout of more than 90 percent appeared unrealistic, especially as many party members allegedly struggled to locate their designated voting centres.
Ojo particularly cited Rivers State as an example, noting that the state’s difficult riverine terrain would ordinarily slow down the collation process. He expressed surprise that results from all 23 local government areas were announced barely hours after voting commenced.
The analyst compared the process with elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, stressing that official elections usually take longer because results must move through several stages of collation before final declaration.
“Look at Rivers, Rivers has 23 Local government, some of them are on the Riverine, yet, by 3pm or thereabout, there was an announcement of total numbers of votes cast,” Ojo stated.
His remarks have added to the growing debate surrounding the conduct and credibility of the APC presidential primaries.
