Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has broken his silence on the impeachment proceedings initiated against him and his deputy by the Rivers State House of Assembly, explaining the meaning behind his controversial remark that “some dogs are backing.”
Speaking publicly for the first time since the impeachment notice was issued, Fubara said the statement was a metaphor directed at the political noise and distractions trailing the ongoing crisis in the state. He explained that the remark was not meant to insult anyone but to illustrate how some reactions to the situation are driven by misunderstanding rather than facts.
The governor said his decision to remain silent in the early days of the impeachment move was deliberate, stressing that he chose calm and restraint over heated exchanges. According to him, responding to every provocation would only escalate tension and undermine peace in Rivers State.
Fubara urged residents of the state to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that his administration remains focused on governance and service delivery despite the political developments. He expressed confidence that the situation would be resolved peacefully, noting that his faith in God has helped him remain composed amid the pressure.
