Former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has dismissed claims that he is part of any northern conspiracy aimed at forcing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu out of office, while reaffirming his commitment to the democratic removal of the Tinubu administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Channels Television, Tambuwal addressed his recent encounter with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), describing his ordeal as politically motivated and linked to his growing influence within the opposition.
According to him, the Tinubu-led government is uncomfortable with his political activities, particularly his involvement in opposition efforts under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
When asked directly whether he believed his trial by the EFCC was politically induced, Tambuwal responded unequivocally in the affirmative. Pressed further on who might be behind the action, he said those worried about him are individuals unsettled by his sustained political engagements.
“They are concerned about my activities,” he said, noting that the pressure he is facing is a direct consequence of his opposition role.
Tambuwal rejected suggestions that his situation is tied merely to personal ambition, insisting instead that it is about his firm commitment to a broader political process aimed at change.
“It’s because I’m fully involved in a process that would democratically and lawfully, by the grace of God, send this government out of office,” he stated. “I’m 100 percent committed to it.”
Reiterating his resolve, the former governor added that the objective is to remove the current administration through the will of the people and within constitutional limits.
“By the grace of God, we’ll chase this government out of power, with the help of God and Nigerians,” he said.
On claims that elements in the North are unhappy with the Tinubu administration and are plotting against it, Tambuwal acknowledged widespread dissatisfaction but distanced himself from any regional agenda.
“It’s true that Nigerians are not happy,” he said. “But I’m not among some people in the North coming together to say that Tinubu must go.”
Instead, Tambuwal explained that his engagement is part of a broader, nationwide coalition seeking a change of leadership through lawful and democratic means.
“I’m involved in the national coalition that there should be a change of guard in Aso Rock through a constitutional democratic process on May 29,” he concluded.
His comments come amid growing political tensions and increasing scrutiny of opposition figures, as Nigeria gradually moves toward the 2027 general elections.
