Barely 24 hours after the rescue of 24 abducted schoolgirls in Kebbi State, suspected bandits have again struck, this time attacking Kurmaci community in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area and kidnapping several residents.
Local sources confirmed that gunmen stormed the community in the early hours of the day, firing sporadically and forcing residents to flee. During the raid, an undisclosed number of people were reportedly abducted and taken to the surrounding bush.
The latest attack has thrown the community into renewed fear and uncertainty, especially after residents had begun to express relief following the successful rescue of the schoolgirls by security operatives. Many locals said the fresh incident shows that criminal groups remain active and undeterred despite recent security operations.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers operated for several hours without resistance, accusing the bandits of exploiting difficult terrain and gaps in security coverage within the area.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kebbi State Government and security agencies are yet to release an official statement confirming the number of abducted victims or outlining steps being taken to rescue them. However, community leaders have renewed calls for the deployment of more security personnel, increased intelligence-led operations, and sustained patrols to prevent further attacks.
Kebbi State, like several parts of the North-West, has faced repeated banditry attacks involving mass abductions, killings, and displacement of rural communities, raising concerns over the safety of residents despite ongoing military and security interventions.
