Opinion: In Support of Abubakar Malami, SAN

By Bashir Adamu Zuru

I wish to express my deep concern and solidarity with former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, following the unfortunate and unacceptable attack on him and his entourage on Friday, October 3, 2025, in Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

That such an act of violence was carried out at a peaceful and sacred gathering like wedding and in the mosque is both shameful and deeply disturbing.

No individual, regardless of political affiliation or public standing, should be subjected to intimidation or physical harm for simply being present or expressing their democratic rights.

I commend Malami, SAN, for the maturity and restraint he demonstrated in the face of such provocation.

His decision to travel with a minimal entourage and his clear directive to avoid any form of retaliation speaks volumes about his commitment to peace, law and order. This is true leadership, and it deserves recognition.

Political thuggery has no place in our society. We must collectively reject the normalization of violence in politics and insist on a culture of tolerance, dialogue, and respect. Our democracy cannot afford to be hijacked by those who see violence as a tool of influence.

I join all well-meaning Nigerians in calling for a thorough investigation and for those responsible to be brought to justice swiftly.

I also encourage all supporters of peace and progress to remain calm and law-abiding, trusting in the process of justice.

May we continue to uphold the values that strengthen our democracy, peace, justice, and mutual respect.
