Hon. Abdullahi Maikano, Chairman of the North West chapter of the National Association of Local Government of Nigeria (NALGON), on Thursday, September 11, paid a courtesy visit to former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN, CON), in Abuja.
The visit was to commiserate with Malami following the violent attack allegedly carried out by suspected thugs loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State on September 1.
Maikano condemned the incident, describing it as “an unacceptable descent into political intolerance” that poses a grave threat to peace and democratic values in the state. He expressed solidarity with Malami and assured him of the support of NALGON leadership across the North West region.
According to Maikano, “Leaders and citizens must rise against politics of violence. What happened in Kebbi is a dangerous signal that should not be allowed to repeat itself.”
In his response, Malami appreciated the show of solidarity and described the attack as “a sad reminder of the challenges confronting Nigeria’s democracy.” He stressed the need for peace and tolerance in political engagement, adding that “the will of the people must be allowed to prevail without intimidation or violence.”
He further noted, “Our democracy can only thrive when we embrace dialogue, fairness, and mutual respect. I urge all political actors to rise above acts of desperation that endanger lives and undermine public confidence in governance.”
Observers note that the September 1 incident has continued to stir political tension in Kebbi State, with calls mounting on security agencies to investigate and bring perpetrators to justice.
