Lokoja — Eight passengers abducted along the Okene–Auchi road in Kogi State have been rescued, the state police confirmed on Saturday, while four victims remain in captivity.
The Kogi State Police Command reported that twelve travellers were kidnapped on Friday while traveling from Abuja to Benin City, Edo State, aboard a Big Joe Toyota Hiace bus with registration number Edo FUG 13 XY. The bus was intercepted by unknown gunmen who abducted all twelve passengers.
Police spokesperson William Aya said the quick response of the Okene Divisional Police Officer, Nasir Muhammad, working alongside military personnel and local vigilante groups, led to the successful rescue of eight passengers, including the bus driver.
Aya assured that efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining four victims and to apprehend the kidnappers. Security agencies have increased patrols along the route to prevent further attacks.
