Ibadan is set to witness history as former Oyo State Governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, will be officially crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on Friday, September 26, 2025.
The coronation, which has received the approval of Governor Seyi Makinde, will take place at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan.
According to palace sources, the decision followed a meeting between Oba Ladoja and the Olubadan-in-Council at his Bodija residence, where kingmakers affirmed his ascension to the throne.
Ladoja, a respected politician and community leader, is widely regarded as a unifying figure in Ibadanland. His coronation is expected to draw dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond, with traditional rulers, political leaders, and cultural groups already making preparations to attend.
The Olubadan stool, considered one of the most revered traditional thrones in Yorubaland, has a unique succession system based on seniority, ensuring a smooth and dispute-free transition.
Governor Makinde, in his approval statement, described the event as “a moment of pride for the people of Oyo State and a symbol of Ibadan’s enduring cultural heritage.”
Security arrangements and cultural displays are being planned to ensure a colorful and peaceful ceremony.
