The recent approval by the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, to constitute a high-powered committee to assess infrastructural damages caused by recent floods is a stark reminder of the governor's lackadaisical attitude towards governance. Rather than taking proactive measures to prevent or mitigate the impact of such disasters, the governor only springs into action after the damage has been done.
This reactive approach to governance is telling. It suggests that the governor is more interested in using the state's taxpayers' money to award contracts that benefit himself rather than taking concrete steps to protect the interests of the people. The fact that the governor is only now setting up a committee to assess damages after the floods have ravaged the state's infrastructure is a clear indication of a lack of foresight and planning.
What's even more disturbing is the apparent lack of accountability and transparency in the governor's actions. The committee's assignment is commendable, but one wonders what the governor's role was in preventing or mitigating the impact of the floods. Was there any preparation or planning done beforehand? Or was the governor too busy awarding contracts to care about the welfare of the people?
The people of Kebbi State deserve better. They deserve a governor who is proactive, accountable, and transparent in his dealings. It's time for the governor to shift his focus from self-enrichment to serving the people who elected him. The taxpayers' money should be used to benefit the state, not just the governor's pocket.
We urge the governor to take a more proactive approach to governance, prioritizing the needs and welfare of the people over personal interests. Anything less is a disservice to the good people of Kebbi State.
