The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to tackling Nigeria’s growing housing deficit, estimated at 20 million units, by deepening partnerships with developers, mortgage institutions, and private investors.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, stated this on Monday during the commissioning of the newly completed Federal Housing Authority (FHA) Express View Estate in Lugbe, Abuja. According to him, addressing the nation’s housing challenge is a central pillar of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The government alone cannot solve the housing deficit; we must work hand in hand with private sector stakeholders, financial institutions, and development partners to deliver affordable and accessible homes for Nigerians,” Dangiwa said.
The newly commissioned estate delivers 110 housing units in its first phase, with plans for expansion to accommodate more households. In addition, the minister disclosed that Lagos has already provided 4,896 homes to new owners under various federal housing initiatives.
Dangiwa emphasized that access to decent housing not only provides shelter but also drives economic growth, job creation, and improved quality of life for citizens. He assured Nigerians that the government would continue to roll out projects across states to ensure inclusivity and affordability in housing delivery.
Stakeholders at the event commended the initiative, noting that effective partnerships remain key to reducing the housing deficit and meeting the needs of Nigeria’s growing population.
