Reps Query N24bn CCTV Budget in Rivers, Issue 48-Hour Ultimatum for Details

By Abu Ismail

The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating the lingering political crisis in Rivers State has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the state’s Sole Administrator to provide a detailed breakdown of controversial allocations in the 2025 budget.

Among the queried items in the ₦1.48 trillion budget are a staggering ₦24 billion earmarked for CCTV installations at the Government House, ₦30 billion for gunboats, and ₦23 billion labeled as “contingencies.”

The lawmakers, who expressed concern over the apparent lack of transparency, demanded the immediate submission of relevant fiscal documents, including the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) records, and detailed reports on local government allocations.

Committee members stressed the need for accountability, warning that failure to comply within the 48-hour window could trigger further legislative actions.
