Vigilantes Kill 182 Bandits in Shinkafi Showdown

By Mohammed Bello Doka

In a major victory against insurgency in Zamfara State, local vigilante operatives in Shinkafi Local Government Area have neutralised 182 bandits, including the notorious kingpin Kachalla Yellow Danbokolo and six of his top commanders.

Danbokolo, a close ally and cousin of wanted bandit leader Kachalla Turji, was reportedly killed during a fierce gun battle over the weekend as his group attempted to relocate to a forest enclave. The operation was carried out by the Shinkafi Community Protection Guards (CPG) with strategic support from security agencies including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Joint Task Force.

Sources revealed that Danbokolo’s camp had terrorised communities across Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina States, often coordinating mass abductions, extortion, and violent raids. His death is seen as a significant blow to the Turji-led network.

A security operative involved in the joint operation, who spoke under anonymity, described the assault as "decisive and well-coordinated," confirming that 182 corpses were recovered from the scene, while others fled with severe injuries.

Local residents in Shinkafi town have since celebrated the development, calling it a turning point in the fight against rural banditry in the North-West.

Community leaders are now urging federal and state authorities to reinforce security presence in the area to prevent any reprisal attacks.
