Troops of the Nigerian Army have thwarted an attempt by Boko Haram terrorists to plant improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on a strategic bridge along the Dikwa–Marte road in Borno State.
The operation, which resulted in a prolonged gunfight, led to the recovery of two heavy IEDs and an assortment of weapons, including AK-47 rifles and PKT machine guns. The foiled attack is part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts under Operation Hadin Kai, the Northeast Joint Task Force.
Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsallam Abubakar, disclosed that troops have intensified clearance operations across key terrorist hideouts, including the Lake Chad region, Sambisa Forest, and the Mandara Mountains.
In the last week alone, nine insurgents were neutralized during ground assaults in Bama, Gwoza, and Konduga Local Government Areas of Borno State.
According to the Commander, the coordinated efforts involve ground troops of the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Navy patrolling the Lake Chad shores, and precision air support from the Nigerian Air Force.
“These sustained offensives have significantly enhanced stability and security across the border communities and surrounding regions,” Major General Abubakar said.
He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to rooting out all terrorist threats and restoring peace in the Northeast.
