Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has categorically dismissed rumors suggesting that he is planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The senator vehemently rejected the notion, describing such defections as a betrayal of the people’s trust and a "great political sin."
Addressing the issue during a recent press conference in Kano, Kwankwaso firmly denied reports of his impending switch to the APC, a move that has been widely circulated by political opponents. He clarified that he had no intention of abandoning the NNPP, a party that he believes holds the key to Nigeria’s future and offers a platform rooted in the welfare and aspirations of the masses.
Kwankwaso called out politicians who defect to rival parties after benefiting from the people's support, stating that it undermines the core values of democracy. He argued that such defections are driven by personal ambition rather than a commitment to the people who voted for them. In his words, these politicians are guilty of “the greatest political sin,” as they turn their backs on the citizens who trusted them with their votes and support.
"I have always remained loyal to the people, and that loyalty remains unshaken," Kwankwaso stated. "The rumors about my defection are false and misleading. I stand with the NNPP and with the people who have supported me through thick and thin."
The presidential candidate also pointed out the opportunistic nature of political switching, warning that such actions erode the integrity of the political system and betray the values upon which democracy is built. He emphasized that his allegiance is with the Nigerian people and not with any political party that seeks to exploit the masses for its own gain.
Kwankwaso, who has maintained a strong following in Kano State and other parts of Northern Nigeria, reiterated his commitment to the Kwankwasiyya movement, which continues to advocate for grassroots development, good governance, and justice for all Nigerians.
As the 2025 presidential election approaches, Kwankwaso’s rejection of the defection rumor strengthens his position within the NNPP, positioning him as a steadfast leader who prioritizes the interests of the people over party politics. His stance serves as a direct challenge to political figures who engage in opportunistic defections, reinforcing his message of loyalty and integrity in leadership.
