A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State and close associate of former Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may not even contest the 2027 presidential election — and if he does, Amaechi is the right man to challenge him.
In a bold statement made available to the media, Eze said that 2027 would come with unexpected political twists, especially if the United States makes public an alleged file on President Tinubu. According to him, such revelations could render the president unfit to seek re-election.
Eze, a former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP), said Nigerians are constantly reaching out to him to know Amaechi’s political direction ahead of 2027. “People keep asking if Amaechi is running, if he’s interested, and what his plans are for Nigeria,” he said.
He argued that public interest in Amaechi stems from a widespread perception that the Tinubu administration is failing to address the critical issues confronting the nation. “A government focused solely on retaining power while the people grapple with a wobbling economy, hunger, insecurity, and rising crime has failed the leadership test,” he said.
Eze stressed that President Tinubu should not even contemplate re-election, given the state of the nation under his watch. “Ordinarily, the failure of his government, which stares us all in the face, should inhibit the president from thinking of re-election,” he said. “But instead, there’s a plot to manipulate the 2027 process — that’s not democracy.”
Praising Amaechi’s credentials, Eze described him as a beacon of hope and a tested leader. “Amaechi remains a pride of Nigeria. His public service record is clean, and he’s widely recognized as a selfless patriot. He’s one of the few who would sacrifice anything to make Nigeria work again,” he said.
With mounting frustration among the populace and pressure from within the ruling party, Eze’s statement adds momentum to speculations that Amaechi could emerge as a strong contender in the 2027 elections — one capable of challenging the status quo and offering a genuine alternative.
