In a significant political development, Senator Shehu Sani has rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State. Governor Uba Sani officially welcomed him, along with 49 other prominent politicians, during a mega rally at Murtala Square on Saturday.
Governor Sani emphasized the inclusive nature of the APC, stating that both new and longstanding members would enjoy equal rights and privileges within the party. He urged the new entrants to encourage their supporters to join the APC, highlighting the party's commitment to just leadership at both state and federal levels.
Senator Shehu Sani, a well-known human rights activist and author, previously represented Kaduna Central in the National Assembly from 2015 to 2019. His political journey has seen multiple affiliations; he initially won his Senate seat under the APC banner in 2015 but departed from the party in October 2018 due to internal disagreements, subsequently joining the People's Redemption Party (PRP) . In 2023, he sought the gubernatorial ticket under the People's Democratic Party (PDP) but was unsuccessful in the primaries.
The rally also marked the defection of other notable figures, including former Governor Alhaji Muktar Ramalan-Yero, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, and Alhaji Sani Sha’aban, the 2023 gubernatorial candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Their move to the APC signifies a substantial shift in Kaduna's political landscape.
Governor Sani expressed confidence in the APC's enduring presence in Kaduna, the northern region, and Nigeria as a whole. He projected a strong performance for the party in the 2027 elections across all levels. Additionally, he reaffirmed his administration's commitment to executing development projects statewide, irrespective of political or ethno-religious affiliations, underscoring a governance approach centered on fairness and inclusivity.
