El-Rufai Denies PDP Defection Rumors

By Mohammed Bello Doka

Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed rumors of his alleged defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The speculation, which gained traction on social media, claimed that El-Rufai had received a PDP membership card at his polling unit in Sarki, Kaduna.

Addressing the allegations on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, El-Rufai described the reports as “patent lies and rumors,” adding that his lawyers have been instructed to take action against those spreading the misinformation.

“This is nothing but mischief by political detractors,” an aide to El-Rufai stated. “If such a major decision were to occur, it would not be in the shadows but announced publicly.”

This is not the first time the former governor has faced such claims. In August 2022, El-Rufai categorically rejected similar allegations, asserting, “Never ever, not even my corpse, will be found in the vicinities of your new-found political party.”

The rumors have sparked widespread reactions in Kaduna’s political circles, but the former governor's firm denial reinforces his loyalty to the APC, a party he has consistently championed.

As the political landscape gears up for the next electoral cycle, El-Rufai’s latest statement highlights his enduring commitment to his political affiliations, silencing the growing whispers of a potential defection.

El-Rufai’s Full Statement:
"Please disregard the patent lies and rumours about my political affiliation. I have referred the lead peddlers of the fake news for further action by my lawyers."
