The Honorable Commissioner for Public Procurement, Project Monitoring, and Evaluation in Kano State, Comrade Nura Iro Ma’aji, has expressed deep concern over the poor execution of Kwankwasiyya Gida-Gida classroom blocks in Sumaila and Garko local government areas.
During an inspection of primary school projects in his hometown, Sumaila, and Garko LGA on January 11, 2024, Comrade Ma’aji expressed disappointment at the substandard work done by contractors, despite clear project specifications and designs provided by the ministry.
“In Albasu local government, the project execution was impressive, with the contractor and supervisor present on-site. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Sumaila and Garko,” Ma’aji noted.
The Commissioner directed contractors with substandard work to halt operations and report to the Ministry for Public Procurement, Project Monitoring, and Evaluation on Monday, January 13, 2024.
“I commend the contractor handling the Albasu school project for delivering quality work. For those with shortcomings, they must address the issues. The terms in their contract papers are clear, and they must adhere to the specifications,” he stated.
Comrade Ma’aji also instructed supervisory officers to communicate with the contractors and ensure they report to the ministry as directed.
During the visit, the Commissioner inspected Zango Primary School in Garko LGA, GSS Albasu in Albasu LGA, Sumaila Gabas Primary School in Sumaila, and the ongoing construction of the Sumaila 5-kilometer road.
The contractor handling the road project assured the Commissioner that work would resume on-site by Monday.
The Commissioner was accompanied by key officials, including the ministry’s Technical Advisers, the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Garba Adamu, and directors from various departments such as Civil Engineering and Infrastructure (Engr. Ibrahim Idris), Building (Engr. Hassan Abubakar Kabara), Planning and Statistics (Bldr. Mas’ud Lado Saleh), and Data (Muhammad Mu’azu), as well as Deputy Director of Building, QS Muhammad Tijjani, and other supporting staff.
