The Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has donated ₦10 million to support fallen heroes in the state.
Governor Yusuf announced the donation during the Emblem Appeal Fund Launch, held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, as part of activities marking the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day. The event took place on Monday.
In addition to the state government’s contribution, Governor Yusuf personally donated ₦2 million to the fund. The 44 local government councils across the state collectively contributed ₦10 million.
Represented by the Director-General of Special Services, AVM Ibrahim Umaru (rtd), Governor Yusuf expressed his appreciation for the sacrifices made by the fallen heroes and those currently engaged in internal security operations, including the fight against insurgency, terrorism, and banditry in parts of the country.
“We assure the people of Kano State of our commitment to prioritizing the security of lives and property, ensuring that Kano remains one of the most peaceful states in the country,” Governor Yusuf stated.
He also called on stakeholders to support and participate in the Legion’s initiatives in transportation, agriculture, and housing development to improve the welfare of veterans and their families. Additionally, he encouraged Kano residents and Nigerians to proudly wear the emblems to honor those who laid down their lives for the peace of the nation.
AVM Umaru (rtd) personally donated ₦300,000 to the fund and appealed to the government and affluent individuals to assist veterans through empowerment schemes, rehabilitation of the State Legion Secretariat, and other welfare initiatives.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Legion in Kano, Army Warrant Officer (AWO) Kabiru Isyaku, expressed gratitude to all donors, assuring that the funds would be used judiciously.
The fundraising event saw contributions of ₦500,000 each from the Nigerian Army, Air Force, and Navy, while the Nigeria Police Force and Department of State Services donated ₦250,000 each. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Commandant of the State Taskforce on Phone Snatching and Drug Abuse, Brig. Gen. Gambo Ahmad Mai Adu’a (rtd), contributed ₦100,000 each.
