Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has warmly welcomed 150 beneficiaries of the state’s foreign postgraduate scholarship program, who have returned after completing their master’s degrees at prestigious international universities.

According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the students arrived at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport at 12:55 p.m. on Saturday. They were received by the governor, his deputy, and other top government officials, including commissioners.

The graduates are part of 420 first-class holders sponsored under the Kano State Government’s "1,000+ Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme." Among them, 150 students earned their degrees from Sharda University in India. Others include 98 graduates from Mewar University, 58 from Symbiosis University, 30 from Kalinga University, 29 from SR University, 23 from Swarnim University, and 33 from the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), among other institutions.

In a grand reception held at the Kano Government House, Governor Yusuf lauded the graduates for their exceptional performance and dedication. He highlighted the scholarship program as a cornerstone of his administration’s vision for human capital development, emphasizing its importance in equipping young talents with advanced skills to drive progress in critical sectors.

In a significant announcement, the governor granted automatic employment to graduates in engineering, medicine, pharmacy, and other health-related fields.

“This move underscores our administration’s commitment to addressing the shortage of skilled healthcare professionals while improving the state’s healthcare system and infrastructure development,” Governor Yusuf stated.

He added, “This initiative is part of our mission to empower the youth and build a prosperous future for Kano State. We are proud of your achievements and confident that you will contribute immensely to our development agenda.”

The foreign postgraduate scholarship scheme, a flagship initiative of Governor Yusuf’s administration, continues to provide international exposure and advanced training for Kano’s brightest minds. It is noteworthy that Governor Yusuf had previously visited Indian universities hosting Kano State postgraduate students to ensure the program's success and effectiveness.
