General Warns Against Treasonous Acts, Including Display of Russian Flags

Chief of Defence Staff Issues Strong Warning on Foreign Flags

General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, has declared that the display of the Russian flag in Nigeria constitutes an act of treason. His statement followed an emergency security meeting with President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu at Aso Rock, where he expressed a firm commitment to holding accountable those involved in such activities.

In his address, General Musa emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting that what began as a peaceful protest has been overtaken by criminal elements engaging in looting and violence. He stated, “We wanted to brief Mr. President on the situation on the ground, and we know that since the riot has started, all the security agencies are working together. Initially, when the riot started, it was described as peaceful, but we have seen individuals exploiting it to incite chaos. Criminal activities, including looting and theft, have become prevalent.”

The General condemned the presence of foreign flags within Nigeria, describing it as “totally unacceptable” and a treasonous act. He further warned, “We are making it clear that we will not tolerate any individual or group displaying foreign flags in Nigeria. This is a treasonable offence and will be treated as such. No one should allow themselves to be used for these purposes.”

Addressing concerns about potential coups, General Musa reinforced Nigeria's commitment to democracy and the role of security agencies in defending it. “Nigeria is a democratic nation, and all security agencies are here to uphold and defend democracy. We will not tolerate any actions aimed at changing the government through unlawful means.”

He also highlighted ongoing efforts to track those orchestrating the display of foreign flags, particularly focusing on individuals manipulating younger people. “We have identified the areas and sponsors involved, and we are prepared to take serious action against them.”

Concluding his statement, General Musa assured that the military is prepared to intervene decisively if the situation worsens, reinforcing that any attempts to undermine Nigeria's sovereignty by displaying foreign flags will be met with stringent legal consequences.
