The British High Commission has intensified its efforts to tackle visa racketeering in Nigeria by seeking the intervention of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences (ICPC) Commission. This strategic move aims to curb the rising incidences of fraudulent visa applications and illegal activities associated with visa processing.
During a recent meeting at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, the Chairman of the ICPC, assured the British High Commission of the Commission's unwavering support. He met with Mr. Coran Oakley, the International Liaison Manager of the Home Office International Operations at the British High Commission, to discuss the ongoing collaboration and future strategies to address this pressing issue.
Dr. Aliyu emphasized the importance of the existing partnership between the ICPC and the British High Commission, noting that the fight against visa racketeering requires sustained and coordinated efforts. "We are well aware of the robust working relationship that exists between our organizations," Dr. Aliyu stated. "Under my leadership, the ICPC is fully committed to strengthening this collaboration and prioritizing our joint efforts to combat visa fraud."
Mr. Oakley expressed his appreciation for the ICPC's support and underscored the significance of joint efforts in tackling the complex issue of visa racketeering. He highlighted that such fraudulent activities not only undermine the integrity of the visa system but also pose serious security risks.
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to enhance information sharing, improve investigative processes, and implement preventive measures to deter individuals and syndicates involved in visa fraud. Both parties recognized the need for continuous dialogue and regular updates to effectively address the challenges posed by visa racketeering.
