In a decisive move aimed at combating rising criminal activities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth C. Igweh, spearheaded a late-night operation dubbed "Operation Velvet." Led personally by CP Igweh, the FCT Police raided a notorious black spot, Gidan Dambe, situated in the Dei-Dei-Zuba axis, resulting in the arrest of 307 suspects.
The raid, conducted on 11/02/2024 at approximately 11:30 PM, yielded significant findings. Among the confiscated items was an English Pistol loaded with fifteen rounds of 9mm ammunition, seized from an individual identifying as Ibrahim Tukur, purportedly a member of the Department of State Services (DSS). Additionally, law enforcement recovered motorcycles, wraps of marijuana, illicit substances, and valuables suspected to have been pilfered from innocent residents.
Operation Velvet, launched on 10/02/2024, encompasses all tactical units within the FCT Police Command, with the primary objective of curbing vehicular criminality and other forms of unlawful activities within the territory. CP Igweh emphasized the importance of professionalism among officers, warning against any form of extortion and reaffirming the commitment to prioritize the security of residents.
