In a shocking revelation, P. Michael, a representative of the Global Anti Human Trafficking Organization (GAHTO) in Mali, raised concerns about a possible collaboration between Nigerian security agencies and kidnappers. The startling account emerged during a recent rescue mission involving the trafficking of a 16-year-old girl to Mali for sexual exploitation.
Michael received an urgent message from Nigerian authorities regarding the young victim and embarked on a mission to rescue her. Attempting to negotiate with the traffickers, Michael found himself facing obstacles as they changed their contact number and seemingly vanished. Suspecting foul play, he contacted local security agents for assistance.
Despite the challenges, Michael and the security agents managed to identify the traffickers' village and new contact number. A covert operation ensued, culminating in the successful rescue of the victim on December 20, 2022. Notably, the rescue was achieved without engaging in any ransom negotiations.
Michael speculates that if Nigerian security agencies possess effective security measures, victims need not succumb to kidnappers' demands. He suggests that the apparent ease with which kidnappers collect ransom in Nigeria raises suspicions of collaboration between security agencies and criminals.
The narrative underscores the gravity of the trafficking issue while posing a critical question: Could ransom collections be a result of an illicit partnership between kidnappers and security agencies? Michael's experience prompts a call for scrutiny into the alleged collaboration and demands urgent action to ensure the safety and security of potential victims.
