In a shocking revelation, a leaked memo dated September 18, 2023, with reference number SH/145/A/220, exposes Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, approving N3 billion from the removal of fuel subsidy Palliative Fund for the verification of the National Social Register. The funds were directed to the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu.
Edu, under scrutiny, received the approved funds for verification, casting a shadow on the legitimacy of the process. The disbursement of the substantial amount involved nine companies, one of which is linked to Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior. Tunji-Ojo claims to have resigned from the company in 2019, raising questions about potential conflicts of interest.
Amidst these allegations, it is crucial to note that what is or was clear was that the Chief of Staff never authorized the payment of the said money to cronies, people of interest, public officials, and private accounts in any guise. This statement underscores the insistence on transparency and ethical handling of public funds. This revelation raises serious questions about the transparency and allocation of fuel subsidy palliative, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation into the matter.
