How Abuja Sisters Were Rescued From Kidnappers

In a meticulously executed joint operation, the Federal Capital Territory Police anti-kidnapping squad, working in tandem with the Nigerian Army, achieved a major breakthrough by rescuing five of the six Al-Kadriyar sisters who had been abducted from the Bwari area of Abuja earlier this month. The daring rescue unfolded in the dense expanse of the Kajuru forest in Kaduna State, with the successful operation taking place at the stroke of 11:30 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2024.

FCT police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the operation's success and commended the unwavering efforts of the security operatives involved. The rescue marks a significant victory against the scourge of kidnapping that has plagued the region.

Expressing gratitude to Inspector-General of Police IGP Olukayode Egbetokun for deploying the newly commissioned Special Intervention Squad, which bolstered the security architecture of the FCT, Commissioner of Police for FCT Command, CP Haruna Garba, underscored the command's dedication to maintaining a robust security deployment in the region.

Despite the tragic circumstances surrounding the abduction, the rescue operation brings a glimmer of hope to the community. The sisters, hailing from Zuma 1 area in the Bwari Area Council, were kidnapped alongside their father and several community members. While their father was promptly released, the abductors demanded a staggering N60 million ransom for the safe return of the children. Tragically, Nabeeha, one of the sisters, paid the ultimate price for the delayed payment of the ransom, losing her life in the hands of the kidnappers.

This successful rescue operation not only demonstrates the effectiveness of collaborative efforts among security agencies but also highlights the challenges faced by families and communities grappling with the menace of kidnapping.
