In a decisive operation prompted by credible intelligence from the Enugu State Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA), the Enugu State Police Command's Operatives successfully raided a criminal hideout in the Centenary City area of Obeagu-Awkunanaw community in Enugu South Local Government Area on Friday, January 19, 2024. The operation resulted in the arrest of three male suspects and the recovery of a significant arsenal.
"Acting on credible information, our operatives executed a successful raid in Centenary City, leading to the apprehension of three suspects involved in various criminal activities," stated Enugu State Police Command.
The arrested individuals were identified as Emmanuel Nwabundo (39) from Abia State, Emmanuel Eze (35), and Anthony Onoche George (30), both hailing from Anambra State. Eight pump action guns, along with live and expended cartridges, were seized during the operation. Additional confiscated items included a machete, four solar-powered CCTV cameras, thirteen assorted phones, a DVD player, and bags of clothes, all suspected to be stolen. Various objects believed to be charms were also recovered.
Preliminary investigations unveiled that the criminals and their cohorts had been using the location as a base for planning and executing various criminal activities, including armed robbery and kidnapping, within Enugu metropolis and its environs.
"The suspects will face legal consequences as soon as our investigations are concluded," assured the Enugu State Police Command.
Commending the operatives for their operational success, Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc (+), reiterated the commitment of the Command to remain proactive and forward-looking in tackling criminal elements in the state.
"In our pursuit to rid Enugu State of unrepentant criminals, the police will continue to be vigilant and proactive," stated CP Kanayo.
The Commissioner urged citizens to cooperate by staying law-abiding, remaining vigilant, and promptly reporting any suspicious activities to the police.
