In a resolute operation conducted on January 20, 2024, the Nigeria Police Force achieved a significant breakthrough by apprehending Bello Mohammed, a 28-year-old hailing from Zamfara state, in the heart of Kaduna. Acting on credible intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer of Tafa Division orchestrated a meticulous raid on a hotel situated in Tafa Area, Kaduna, where Bello was captured. Shockingly, he was found in possession of a substantial sum of #2.25 million, strongly suspected to be the ill-gotten gains derived from ransoms collected in the region.
The arrest unfolded as a result of the unwavering commitment of the Divisional Police Officer, who, acting on reliable information, successfully zeroed in on the suspect. During the operation, Bello was apprehended in the act, with the significant cash haul, pointing to his involvement in nefarious activities.
"Bello Mohammed confessed to being an integral part of the gang responsible for the heinous kidnapping of Barrister Ariyo's family in Bwari, FCT, on January 2, 2024. Additionally, he admitted to the shocking murder of Nabeeha, the daughter of the legal practitioner, on January 13, 2024, within a kidnapper's camp situated in Kaduna," revealed sources within the police force.
During the subsequent interrogation process, a dramatic turn of events unfolded when Bello, in a desperate attempt to evade justice, offered a staggering bribe of #1,000,000 to the Divisional Police Officer. Demonstrating unwavering integrity and commitment to duty, the DPO, SP Idris Ibrahim, resolutely rejected the illicit inducement, upholding the principles of justice.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, swiftly intervened, issuing directives for the transfer of the suspect to the DFI-IRT in Abuja. This move aimed at ensuring a thorough and discreet investigation into the matter, especially considering Bello's confession implicating five previously neutralized bandits in Kaduna. The notorious gang, led by Mai Gemu (aka Godara), had its deadly camp successfully dismantled during the operation.
Emphasizing the commitment to rooting out criminal networks, the IGP reassured the public that no stone would be left unturned in the pursuit of justice. Commending the dedication and professionalism displayed by DPO Tafa, SP Idris Ibrahim, in handling the case, the IGP underscored the Police Force's relentless determination to create a safer environment for all citizens in Nigeria.
