As H.E. Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello, the Executive Governor of Kogi State prepares to live office, one cannot but admire his journey of several firsts in a number of strategic areas of governance.
GYB as he is fondly called, has demystified government and governance processes in the history of the modern Nigerian State, by allowing the dynamic youthful demographic of Kogi State take the driver's seat in almost all facets.
"The youths are the leaders of tomorrow" it is often taunted. For so long, the youths of Nigeria have asked when will their tomorrow come. But in his wisdom, Governor Yahaya Bello on assumption of duty in 2016- himself a youth- ran with the wisdom of entrusting the running of the affairs of the State to the youths. No wonder the vibrant ideas that have crystalized in stellar performances in areas of massive infrastructure development, provision of social amenities, improvement in the forward looking educational agenda of the State, the continued inflow of investment into the tourism sector and the energized security architecture of the State, not to forget the milestones recorded in the health sector. These and more are what a youthful brand of leaders can bring to the fore. The history of Nigeria's founding by young leaders bear these hallmarks.
H.E Gov. Yahaya Adoza Bello did this by appointing educated and vibrant youths as personal Aides, Commissioners and Heads of Agencies. Beyond these, he spearheaded the youthful takeover of the House of Assembly and even the LGA administration as well. Infact, the language in Kogi State soon became "Youth O'Clock."
Retrospectively, one can conclude that the youths of Kogi State, ably led and given opportunity by GBY, have given a good account of themselves and by extension the entire youths of Nigeria, that given the right motivation and opportunity, we can turn the fortunes of Nigeria around. It is obvious that in this area, where GYB leads, others follow.
Haven had a productive administration down to the eve of his exit, H.E Alh. Yayaha Adoza Bello had kept grooming another youth in whom he has been well pleased, and has given to us another brand new young man whose educational and administrative prowess are in no doubt. His Public Service credentials stood him out for the unassailable victory of 11th November, 2023. Low and behold, Alh. Ododo Ahmed Usman, our incoming Governor, the great son of the White Lion.
As we continue to pray for Gov. Yahaya Adoza Bello into the future for greater heights and calling in the service of Nigeria, may Alh. Ododo Ahmed Usman succeed in the coming years. Amin.
