Abuja — The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council has lashed out at Peter Obi, describing his continued claim that he won the 2023 presidential election as a troubling display of delusion and a blatant disregard for facts.
The APC campaign council was reacting to Obi's recent interview with the BBC, where the former Labour Party presidential candidate insisted he won the 2023 election but admitted he has no evidence to prove it.
When asked directly whether he had evidence to support his claim, Obi said there is no evidence, adding that everything is not based on evidence. He still maintained that he won the election and that is where he will end the matter.
The APC campaign council spokesman, Dele Alake, said the statement was deeply troubling and questioned how a candidate who placed a distant third in the election could persistently insist he won without any evidence and contrary to all official records. Alake said this reflects a deep disconnection from reality and absolute disregard for facts and truth.
Alake mocked the source of Obi's claims, asking whether he was getting his facts from his infamous adviser at Upper Iweka Junction or from one Obedient punching a laptop from California or Dallas.
The APC reiterated that President Bola Tinubu won the 2023 election decisively, with his victory confirmed by the Independent National Electoral Commission and affirmed by both the election tribunal and the Supreme Court.
According to official results, Tinubu secured over 8.7 million votes, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party came second with nearly 7 million votes, while Obi finished third with just over 6.1 million votes.
Obi had challenged the results at the Presidential Election Petition Court, but his petition was dismissed in September 2023. The Supreme Court subsequently upheld Tinubu's victory in October 2023.
The APC also called on Obi to honour his earlier pledge to exit the 2027 presidential race if it was proven that his administration left liabilities in Anambra State. The council claimed that the state's financial records have now clearly established those liabilities.
The statement further accused Obi of demonstrating a troubling lack of character, candour and dignity, saying one would expect his latest remarks to come from overzealous supporters rather than a presidential candidate who is becoming a veteran of the race.
The APC said while Obi continues what it described as posturing and shenanigans, President Tinubu remains focused on discharging his mandate through economic, educational and infrastructural reforms across the country.
