The emergence of Rt. Hon. Ogunda Kingsley (OK) Chinda as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 Rivers State election marks a significant milestone in the political evolution of the state. While his emergence has generated widespread interest, diverse opinions, and spirited political debate, such reactions are both expected and healthy in any democratic society. Leadership contests naturally attract differing perspectives, and Rivers State is no exception.
However, when one carefully examines the credentials, experience, and remarkable public service record of Rt. Hon. Chinda, it becomes evident that the decision of the Renewed Hope Rainbow Coalition deserves commendation. Many observers regard the process that produced his candidacy as painstaking, consultative, and ultimately rewarding, yielding a candidate whose competence, integrity, and leadership credentials have earned broad public recognition.
His emergence should not be viewed merely as an act of political patronage, as some have suggested. Rather, it is a decision founded on competence, experience, and proven leadership. Even for those who choose to describe it as political patronage, it is difficult to deny that Rt. Hon. Chinda has diligently paid his dues through years of dedicated service, loyalty, and selfless commitment to the growth of both his party and the Nigerian democratic process.
Over the years, Rt. Hon. Chinda has distinguished himself as an accomplished legal practitioner, an outstanding legislator, and a grassroots politician with an unwavering commitment to constitutional democracy and good governance. His political philosophy, often described as the "I Win, You Win" approach, reflects a leadership style built on inclusion, dialogue, consensus-building, and shared progress rather than division and exclusion.
It is this philosophy of inclusive leadership that I describe as the OK Vision—a vision anchored on responsible leadership, transparent governance, unity, and sustainable development for Rivers State.
There is no doubt that Rivers State deserves the realization of this vision. As one of Nigeria's foremost economic hubs and the nation's treasure base, the state occupies a strategic position in national development. Yet, the future of Rivers State depends not only on its abundant natural resources but also on visionary leadership, strong institutions, and citizens who are committed to peace, unity, and collective progress.
This is precisely why Rt. Hon. Chinda stands out among the other contenders. Throughout his years in public service, he has consistently demonstrated respect for constitutional democracy, the rule of law, legislative accountability, and institutional integrity. His contributions in the National Assembly have established him as a legislator who places justice, national interest, and responsible governance above narrow political considerations.
Equally commendable is his unwavering commitment to unity in a state blessed with diverse ethnic nationalities, cultures, and political interests. Rivers State can only attain its full potential when its diversity becomes a source of strength rather than division. The OK Vision recognizes that sustainable development is impossible without peace, mutual respect, and inclusive governance.
His record of public service also reflects sustained support for community development, youth empowerment, educational advancement, infrastructure development, and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of ordinary citizens. While governance remains a collective responsibility, these contributions demonstrate his enduring commitment to people-centred leadership and public service capable of transforming Rivers State into a model of excellence.
Beyond politics, the OK Vision presents a comprehensive development agenda. It recognizes the urgent need to invest in quality education, accessible healthcare, agriculture, entrepreneurship, technology, innovation, and vocational skills. Rivers State possesses enormous human and economic potential, particularly among its youthful population. Strategic investment in these sectors will diversify the state's economy, reduce excessive dependence on oil revenue, create sustainable employment opportunities, and secure a more prosperous future for generations to come.
Peace and reconciliation also remain central pillars of this vision. History has repeatedly shown that genuine development cannot thrive where political conflict and social division persist. Rivers State has recorded its greatest achievements whenever dialogue replaced confrontation and cooperation prevailed over hostility. Building bridges across political, ethnic, and social divides is therefore essential to achieving lasting stability and prosperity.
Supporting the OK Vision goes beyond endorsing a political candidate. It represents a commitment to justice, equity, accountability, inclusive governance, and service to humanity. It challenges both leaders and citizens to place the common good above personal interests while working together to build stronger institutions and more resilient communities. It also calls on the people of Rivers State to rise above petty grievances, ethnic sentiments, and political divisions in pursuit of a greater collective future.
As the state approaches another defining political moment, there is every reason for optimism. A united, peaceful, and prosperous Rivers State is an achievable goal when visionary leadership is matched by collective responsibility. By embracing the enduring values of inclusion, constitutional democracy, accountability, peace, and sustainable development that have characterized the public life of Rt. Hon. Ogunda Kingsley Chinda, Rivers State can confidently move toward a brighter and more prosperous future.
I also commend the Political Leader of Rivers State, His Excellency Chief Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, and the leadership of the Renewed Hope family for providing the platform through which the OK Vision of inclusion has found expression within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
As a committed member of the APC and a stakeholder in the Renewed Hope family in Rivers State, I proudly identify with the OK Vision. I remain confident that it provides a credible pathway to lasting peace, genuine unity, inclusive governance, and sustainable development for our beloved Rivers State.
