The Federal Government has increased the registration fee for the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) to ₦50,000 per candidate, with the new rate taking effect from the 2027 NECO SSCE (Internal) examination.
The approval was conveyed in a letter dated June 18, 2026, signed by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Mr. Adeniji Ibrahim, on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Education, and addressed to the Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO).
According to the ministry, the decision followed a request by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for an upward review of examination fees for Senior School Certificate Examinations beginning in 2027.
The ministry recalled that at a meeting of examination bodies with the Honourable Minister of Education on March 31, 2026, stakeholders discussed the need to review examination fees. Following the deliberations, the Minister directed that WAEC and NECO should adopt a uniform registration fee for the conduct of their Senior School Certificate Examinations.
Consequently, the Minister approved ₦50,000 as the new examination fee for each candidate sitting for the NECO SSCE (Internal) from 2027.
The Federal Ministry of Education directed the NECO Registrar to communicate the revised fee to all relevant stakeholders ahead of its implementation.
