The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation acted on a request for office accommodation from a body that the Presidency would later disown as a fake agency. Exclusive documents obtained by Saturday PUNCH revealed that the SGF’s office received, acknowledged, and forwarded correspondence from the so-called Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council months before the government dismissed its existence.
The documents indicate that the SGF’s office formally processed a request by the self-styled Director-General of the council, Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, seeking office space from properties recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Correspondence dated November 21, 2024, signed by a Permanent Secretary on behalf of the SGF, had an attached request from Adeyemi dated November 7, 2024. Registry stamps confirmed that the SGF’s office received the application on November 12 before forwarding it to the anti-graft agency nine days later.
In his letter, Adeyemi presented the council as a legitimate Federal Government investment promotion agency responsible for attracting foreign direct investment. He claimed it served as a one-stop shop for investment coordination across ministries and agencies. These details have emerged as Adeyemi faces criminal prosecution for allegedly operating a fictitious government agency and forging a presidential appointment letter. The Presidency has since maintained that the council was entirely fictitious, noting that the case against Adeyemi includes police investigation reports and charges of fraudulent conduct.
