PRESS STATEMENT REJECTING THE CAMPAIGN OF UNFOUNDED ALLEGATIONS AGAINST SENATOR ABDUL’AZIZ YARI

PRESS STATEMENT

*REJECTING THE CAMPAIGN OF UNFOUNDED ALLEGATIONS AGAINST SENATOR ABDUL’AZIZ YARI*

We have taken note of the allegations circulated by the Coalition for Accountability and National Development (CAND) attempting to associate Senator Abdul’aziz Yari with reported illegal mining activities and the alleged interception of gold by law enforcement authorities.

These claims appear to be based on accusation rather than proof and should not be treated as established facts. In a constitutional democracy, no individual should be condemned in the media or the court of public opinion without credible evidence and due legal process.

Senator Yari has devoted years to public service and has remained a significant figure in Nigeria’s political landscape. Any attempt to malign his reputation through speculative or unverified assertions undermines the principles of fairness and justice that should guide public discourse.

While every Nigerian supports the Federal Government’s efforts to combat illegal mining, economic sabotage, and the illicit exploitation of the nation’s mineral resources, those efforts must be pursued with professionalism, impartiality, and respect for the rights of all citizens. Selective narratives and sensational accusations do not strengthen the fight against corruption; they weaken public confidence in it.

If any investigation is ongoing, it should be allowed to proceed independently and without political interference or media pressure. The proper venue for determining responsibility is the competent legal process, not public speculation or advocacy statements unsupported by judicial findings.

We therefore urge members of the public, the media, and civil society organisations to exercise restraint and avoid drawing conclusions before the relevant authorities complete their work. Allegations must never be confused with guilt, and reputation should not be sacrificed on the altar of conjecture.

Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, like every Nigerian citizen, is entitled to the constitutional presumption of innocence until proven otherwise. We remain confident that the truth will emerge through lawful and transparent processes, and we encourage all stakeholders to allow justice to take its proper course.
