The Movement for the Emancipation of Nigeria has condemned the arrest and continued detention of General Haruna Gololo by the Nigerian Police, describing the action as a dangerous assault on the fundamental right to freedom of expression.
In a statement signed by Comrade-General Solomon Dalung, the group said dissenting opinions and criticism of government policies must never be criminalized in a constitutional democracy.
MEN warned that the weaponization of law enforcement against citizens for expressing their views threatens the rule of law and democratic accountability. The group demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Gololo and all others detained for exercising their constitutional rights, urging authorities to respect civil liberties and stop undermining public confidence in democratic institutions.
