The Presidency has said electricity has improved across parts of Nigeria under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, attributing the development to ongoing reforms in the power sector.
The Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, made the assertion during a media appearance, where he maintained that Nigerians now enjoy better access to electricity compared to previous years, particularly 2015 and 2023.
According to Bwala, the reported improvement in electricity supply is the result of deliberate policy and legislative measures introduced by the current administration. He explained that these reforms have created an enabling environment for increased participation by state governments, local authorities, and private sector players in electricity generation and distribution.
He further noted that the decentralisation of the power sector is gradually addressing long-standing structural challenges, including limited generation capacity, weak transmission infrastructure, and inefficiencies in distribution networks. These efforts, he said, are beginning to translate into more stable and consistent power supply in several parts of the country.
The presidential aide emphasised that improving electricity remains a critical priority for the Tinubu administration, given its direct impact on economic growth, industrial productivity, and the overall cost of living. He added that ongoing investments in transmission and distribution infrastructure are helping to reduce system losses and enhance service delivery nationwide.
Despite the claims of improvement, Nigeria’s power sector continues to face significant challenges, including chronic shortages, aging infrastructure, and insufficient generation capacity, which have historically limited electricity supply across the country.
Bwala, however, expressed optimism that sustained reforms and increased investment would further strengthen the sector and deliver more reliable electricity to Nigerians in the coming years.
