A senior figure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, Umar Moriki, has been shot dead by gunmen suspected to be bandits, in another deadly attack highlighting the state’s worsening security situation.

The incident occurred on November 15, 2025, along the Gusau–Tsafe highway as Moriki was travelling after attending a political stakeholders’ meeting and reception. Witnesses said the attackers opened fire on his vehicle, killing him on the spot.

The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress confirmed the killing, describing Moriki as a committed party leader whose death is a major loss to the party and the state.

Security sources said the area where the attack occurred has remained a hotspot for bandit activity despite ongoing military and security operations. No group has officially claimed responsibility for the attack as of the time of filing this report.

Zamfara State has been grappling with persistent attacks by armed groups, including killings, abductions, and ambushes on major highways, raising renewed concerns over the safety of residents and travellers across the state.
