Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has held a private meeting with a former governor of Zamfara State and serving senator representing Zamfara West, Abdulaziz Yari, in Abuja.
The meeting, which took place behind closed doors, was held at Atiku’s Abuja residence. Details of the discussion were not disclosed, as both political figures declined to address journalists after the engagement.
The development has since generated political interest, given Senator Yari’s standing as a prominent figure within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and his influence in the North-West geopolitical zone.
Yari served as governor of Zamfara State for two terms between 2011 and 2019 before being elected to the Senate. He remains one of the most influential political actors from the state and a key mobiliser in the region.
Atiku, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election, has in recent months been involved in a series of political consultations with leaders across party lines, amid ongoing discussions around opposition alignment and future political strategy.
