A former member of the House of Representatives, Rotimi Makinde, has declared that he will remain resolute within the All Progressives Congress (APC) structure in Ile-Ife, despite tensions trailing the party’s recent gubernatorial primary process in Osun State.
Makinde’s strong words come amid intense political recalculations in Ile-Ife, a historically significant town in Ile-Ife, following the outcome of the APC primary. While some party members have reportedly expressed dissatisfaction, Makinde insisted he would not abandon the party.
“I’ll stand tall in APC Ile-Ife, even if it’s just me standing,” he declared, signaling defiance and loyalty to the party’s leadership.
Warns Against “Election-Season Projects”
Makinde cautioned residents not to be swayed by what he described as the Osun State government’s “sudden interest” in road construction and development projects in Ile-Ife.
Without mincing words, he labeled the moves as “Sakamaje, Wuruwuru politics of deception,” alleging that such gestures were politically motivated and timed to influence voter sentiment ahead of crucial elections.
“Ile Ife deserves genuine transformation, not election-season gantries,” he said, urging the people to look beyond short-term projects and promises.
The Osun State government is currently led by Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), whose administration has recently intensified infrastructure activities across parts of the state.
Links Osun Politics to Tinubu’s Standing
Makinde further framed the political contest in broader regional and national terms. According to him, the mineral resources from Ile-Ife significantly sustain Osun State’s economy, and the town deserves commensurate development.
He also argued that political outcomes in Osun, particularly in Ile-Ife, could carry symbolic weight for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“A loss for APC in Ile Ife or Osun State could be seen as a Yoruba rejection of Tinubu, and this would not augur well for our history,” Makinde warned.
He described the APC’s candidate, Bola Oyebanji, as an “ideal candidate,” urging voters to rally behind the party for what he termed the progress of the Yoruba nation.
Call for Vigilance
Makinde concluded by advising residents to be cautious of what he called political “secret offers” and strategic overtures from the current state government, insisting that loyalty to APC and support for Tinubu remain crucial for the region’s political relevance.
As Osun’s political landscape continues to evolve, his remarks underscore the growing battle for influence in Ile-Ife — a town whose electoral direction may carry consequences far beyond its borders.
