The (INEC) has announced that it will soon publish the names of political associations that have been successfully registered as political parties.
The commission said the approval followed the completion of a comprehensive screening process in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Electoral Act, 2022. According to INEC, only associations that fully met all legal, administrative, and constitutional requirements were granted registration.
INEC explained that the assessment covered key criteria, including submission of party constitutions and manifestos, verified national headquarters addresses, evidence of national spread, and compliance with leadership and financial guidelines stipulated by law.
The electoral body clarified that associations that failed to meet the required standards were not approved, stressing that political party registration is subject to strict scrutiny to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic process.
INEC added that the official list of newly registered political parties would be released through its recognised communication channels, marking the conclusion of the current registration exercise and potentially expanding the country’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
