Former Governor of Bayelsa State and Senator representing Bayelsa West, Henry Seriake Dickson, has firmly dismissed reports suggesting that he has defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the claims as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public.
In a statement issued through his media aide, Dickson clarified that he remains a committed and active member of the PDP and has not joined, nor is he in the process of joining, any other political party. He stressed that at no point did he authorise anyone to speak on his behalf regarding defection or political realignment.
The senator explained that the rumour gained traction during a period when he had deliberately reduced his public political engagements. According to him, this temporary withdrawal was due to a period of mourning and the need to receive condolence visits, a situation that may have been exploited by purveyors of misinformation.
Dickson further noted that while he continues to closely observe national political developments, especially as conversations around future elections intensify, any decision concerning his political future would only be taken after wide consultations with his supporters, political associates, and constituents. He emphasised that such decisions, if and when made, would be communicated openly through official and verifiable channels.
The former governor also used the opportunity to caution media organisations and the general public against spreading unverified reports, urging journalists to uphold professional standards by confirming information before publication. He called on his supporters across Bayelsa State and beyond to disregard the defection story in its entirety.
The clarification comes amid heightened political speculation nationwide as parties position themselves ahead of future electoral contests, a period often marked by rumours of defections involving high-profile politicians.
Dickson concluded by reaffirming his focus on legislative duties at the National Assembly and his commitment to representing the interests of the people of Bayelsa West, insisting that his immediate priority remains public service rather than partisan speculation.
