Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has renewed calls for peaceful coexistence, religious tolerance, and stronger national cohesion following a courtesy visit to Sokoto.
During the visit, Dalung met with a respected Islamic cleric and social justice advocate, Sheikh Murtala Asada, describing the engagement as frank, constructive, and deeply reflective. He said discussions centred on the shared responsibility of faith leaders and citizens to intensify efforts toward strengthening national unity, mutual respect, and lasting peace across the country.
Dalung stressed that Nigeria’s religious and ethnic diversity should serve as a unifying force rather than a fault line, arguing that influential clerics and community leaders must consistently speak against intolerance, hatred, and violence. According to him, interfaith dialogue remains a critical tool for promoting understanding and countering narratives that fuel division.
The former minister also underscored the need for sustained grassroots engagement, especially in regions facing insecurity and social tension. He noted that collaboration between Christian and Muslim leaders can help rebuild trust, address grievances peacefully, and reinforce a collective commitment to justice and social harmony.
