The National Chairman of the (APC), Professor , has directed all state coordinators of the party’s ongoing nationwide electronic membership registration exercise to ensure that every member of the party is registered, warning that failure to do so will lead to their removal.
Yilwatda gave the directive while addressing state coordinators and members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), stressing that the success of the exercise is critical to the credibility, unity, and future electoral strength of the ruling party.
He described the electronic registration as a key reform initiative designed to establish a credible and verifiable digital database of APC members across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). According to him, the exercise will eliminate duplication, check infiltration, and resolve longstanding disputes arising from disputed or inflated membership lists.
The APC chairman warned coordinators against treating the exercise with levity or using it to promote factional interests within the party, noting that the national secretariat is closely monitoring developments in all states.
“No genuine member of this party should be excluded. Any coordinator who fails to deliver a complete, transparent and credible registration will be replaced,” Yilwatda said.
He acknowledged reports of challenges in some states, including inadequate sensitisation at the grassroots, logistical constraints, and technical hitches with registration devices. To address these concerns, he directed state coordinators to work closely with ward and local government party officials, extend registration timelines where necessary, and ensure wider access to registration centres, especially in rural areas.
Yilwatda further explained that the updated electronic register will serve as the official membership database for future party activities, including congresses, primaries, delegate selection, and internal decision-making processes.
Party sources said the APC leadership is determined to use the exercise to strengthen internal democracy, improve mobilisation, and reposition the party ahead of future elections.
The nationwide electronic membership registration is currently ongoing across the country, with state coordinators expected to submit periodic progress reports to the national secretariat as the exercise enters a critical phase.
