There are leaders whose love is measured by geography, by tribe, by accent, by the uniforms they once wore. But there are a few, a rare few, whose love is earned in a completely different way.
For President Muhammadu Buhari, it was never about where he came from.
Not the North.
Not the Fulani identity.
Not the military past.
None of these explain the warmth people felt toward him.
People loved him because of who he tried to be.
Because in a world crowded with noise, he carried himself with a quiet kind of dignity.
Because while others chased comfort, he leaned toward service.
Because when truth became expensive, he still tried to speak it, even when it cost him something.
And because his intentions, imperfect as any human’s, were honest.
That sincerity, that sense of integrity, touched hearts in ways politics never could.
No one needed to agree with every decision he made.
No one needed to walk the world exactly as he did.
But people could feel the genuineness behind his choices, choices that often came from a place of responsibility rather than convenience.
His legacy isn’t carved only in policies or pages of history.
It lives in the people who felt seen, heard, and respected by his simplicity, it lives in those who found, in him, a reminder that leadership can still be rooted in humility… in restraint… in truth.
May Allah, the Most Merciful, envelope President Muhammadu Buhari in His forgiveness. May every sincere effort he made be accepted, and every human mistake be pardoned. May his resting place be filled with light, peace, and divine mercy, and may the Almighty grant him Jannatul Firdaus, the highest, purest home in Paradise. Ameen.
