The British-Nigerian world heavyweight boxing champion, was on Monday involved in a road traffic accident in Makun area of Ogun State, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, sparking widespread concern among fans and the sporting community.
According to multiple reports, the accident occurred near the Sagamu Interchange, close to a filling station on the Ibadan-bound lane of the expressway. Joshua was said to be travelling in a Lexus SUV as part of a small convoy when the vehicle collided with a stationary truck under circumstances that are still being investigated by authorities.
Eyewitness accounts and preliminary reports indicate that two occupants of the vehicle died at the scene, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries. Joshua reportedly suffered minor injuries and was immediately taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Sources confirmed that he was conscious and stable after the crash.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident, noting that investigations had commenced to determine the exact cause of the crash, with factors such as overspeeding and possible dangerous overtaking being examined. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) also responded to the scene, assisting with rescue efforts and traffic control.
Video clips and photographs circulating on social media showed a damaged vehicle and Joshua being assisted by emergency responders and bystanders, further confirming his presence at the scene.
As of press time, the identities of the deceased had not been officially released, while no formal statement had yet been issued by Joshua’s management team. Authorities have assured the public that a detailed report will be made available after investigations are concluded.
