The Kebbi State Government has officially announced that the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Samaila Muhammad Bagudo, was rescued from captivity through the combined efforts of security agencies. However, emerging evidence now casts doubt on the official narrative.
An audio recording currently circulating online allegedly features the Deputy Speaker himself in conversation with an associate, inquiring about the amount of money raised so far. The associate reportedly replied, “about ₦100 million plus.” In the same audio, the Deputy Speaker was heard instructing the individual to sell some of his vehicles and to appeal to his colleagues for additional financial support to complete the ransom payment.
If authentic, the recording strongly suggests that Hon. Bagudo’s release may not have been the result of a daring rescue mission, as claimed by the state government, but rather the outcome of ransom negotiations and payment.
Such a revelation, if verified, raises serious questions about transparency, accountability, and the credibility of the government’s communication on this sensitive issue. While the efforts of security agencies in combating banditry and kidnapping across the state remain commendable, presenting misinformation to the public only erodes trust and undermines confidence in governance.
The people of Kebbi State deserve the truth. Was Hon. Samaila Muhammad Bagudo truly rescued by security operatives — or was he released after a ransom was paid? The government owes the public a clear and honest answer.
