Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Friday visited former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido at his Abuja residence in a renewed effort to douse rising tensions over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national chairmanship tussle.
Makinde, who arrived with Senator Abdul Ningi and other key PDP stakeholders, held a closed-door meeting with Lamido aimed at persuading him and his loyal faction to reconsider their hard position as the crisis deepens.
The PDP has been battling internal disagreements over zoning and the selection of a new national chairman, with rival blocs insisting on different arrangements ahead of the party’s national convention. Lamido has remained vocal about maintaining fairness and adhering to the party’s established power-sharing principles — a stance that has placed him at the center of the current dispute.
According to party sources, Makinde’s visit forms part of a larger peace effort by senior party figures worried that prolonged infighting could further weaken the PDP and derail preparations for the convention. The discussion, which lasted several hours, focused on restoring unity, calming tensions and ensuring that the party does not fragment into parallel camps.
